School Pride Since 1944
Students brainstormed & generated many solutions for their multifunctional space & designed a scaled diagram of the Mo’adon.
The Day School originally opened its doors as the “Foundation School” when the Jacksonville Jewish Center was located in the Springfield area of the city. The Foundation School was renamed Solomon Schechter Day School before it became the Martin J. Gottlieb Day School. While the school has been renamed twice and moved once, its mission has remained the same – providing a high quality secular and Jewish education grounded in Jewish values.
From the schools inception, its graduates have gone on to serve important roles around the world. Teachers, doctors, lawyers, scientists, artists, and athletes--our alumni have left their mark in many different ways. Alumni report back that they are grateful for their education and the strong Jewish foundation they received while attending the school. Our alumni continue to practice tikkun olam and mitzvot, Jewish values they learned as students at our school. Many of our alumni now have children and grandchildren attending the school. Some of our alumni have even returned to teach in the school.

The day school’s namesake, Martin J. Gottlieb, a graduate of the Jacksonville Jewish Center’s Solomon Schechter Day School, was a man of integrity and compassion. He was a successful businessman who was proud of his Jewish heritage and its honored traditions and took great pleasure in service to others within the Jewish community as well as the greater Jacksonville community. Martin J. Gottlieb’s legacy sets the standard for today’s day school students. A fact about Marty that resonates with current students is that he loved to send pizza to the troops. Our students continue the tradition and send pizza to soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces every year in his memory.
Laurie Preschool is founded on the commitment and passion for education embodied by Laurie DuBow and family.
